Here’s what just some of our visitors had to say about the show following their visits…
B. Newton, Hungerford- 2018
Thank you once again for having us to exhibit at the 50th Anniversary, we had a marvellous time. The collection of engines was outstanding and a lot of hard work had gone into getting them all there, I particularly liked the scrap yard. Who would have thought in 1968 when it all started that you would have over 500 engines from all over the world at an event in Dorset. Anyway thank you for all your hard work. It is very much appreciated by a lot of us who enjoy coming to Dorset every year… as Gerry Burr once said, ‘Heaven on earth.’
Kristein Lewis, (Email Address Supplied) -2018
Thank you once again for an amazing event. Always a pleasure to arrive and see all the show… back again next year for definite.
Geoff Butt, (Email Address Supplied) -2018
Had a great time as always keep up the good work will be back again next year.
Chris Topp-, (Email Address Supplied) – 2018
Thank you for a great 500@50 show. This was an amazing celebration of the last 50 years. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to next years show.
Tim Dalton, Weston-Super-Mare – 2018
I thought I would drop you a few lines to congratulate you all on what was a magnificent steam fair. I had been looking forward to the 50th rally for many years and you did not disappoint… 500 engines blimey! I have never seen so many steam engines in one location, it was hard to believe and a spectacle to behold that I will never forget. Which brings me onto the big arena what sight that was, I was stood by the fence watching the engines doing their thing and thought I had been stood there around 30 minutes- I had actually been stood there for 2 hours! I must have been totally transfixed by the action in the arena. I could waffle on for pages but it would mean simply this: the 500 at 50 was fantastic and flawless! See you next year!
Anne Preston, North Yorkshire- 2018
I feel I must drop you a line to say what an amazing time all our family had at the Rally. How you organized such a large event I will never know… we met people from all over the world- and they could not believe it. Well done- we look forward to Dorset 2019.
Rob van de Geer, (Email Address Supplied)- 2018
Hello Jenny. I would like to thank you and the other organisers of the GDSF for inviting us to a very special event this year! We have had a great time, and we hope the visitors enjoyed our attendance to the show. A lot of interesting questions, talks and contacts made our stay more then worthwhile. Hopefully you have enjoyed the show as much as we did!
Edward Atkinson, (Email Address Supplied)- 2018
Just wanted to say thank you and congratulations for putting on an amazing show this year. As an exhibitor I doubt I will never see a show like it again. The show is a “Mecca” for people like myself and the anticipation of it being something special for the 50th was certainly no anti-climax.
Roger Graves, (Email Address Supplied)- 2018
Hi – can I just take the opportunity to say what a fantastic event it was – I have never been before and travelled down from Grantham, Lincolnshire with my son staying in our caravan on site for 5 days.
The organisation, the varied displays, the entertainment, the food and the sheer dedication of all the enthusiasts who so lovingly care for their machines was just outstanding and I cannot thank you enough – we just didn’t want it to end and are already looking forward the next year.
Janet Greaseley, Whatton- 2017
I just wanted to say what a splendid time we all had at the show-eight of us (all family)… from 5 to 72. We all had a wonderful time-even the two adults who had never been camping! There was so much to see and do and everyone was so helpful on site from the security people through to bar staff. I must say I was so very impressed with all the work and organisation undertaken to ensure that this show was so efficiently and effectively run. You have an excellent team.
Yvonne Thorne & Derek Lester- Jones, Shillingstone- 2017
A very big thank you from the North Dorset Railway Trust at Shillingstone. We very much appreciate your support of our project. A wonderful event and again thank you.
Lesley Barr, Malmesbury, Wiltshire- 2017
Another Dorset Steam Fair has come and gone. I hope it has been successful. Thank you to all of you who work so hard to make it a great show. The late Michael certainly started something big.
Debbie Blyth-Squires- 2017
Just wanted to say what a fantastic Steam Fair again this year, and to thank you all for the effort you put into organising the event. It never ceases to amaze us how you pull it all together. Looking forward to the 50th Anniversary show next year.
Mike & Ainslie Aldron, Swansea – 2016
Main show, as always excellent. WW1 section is still a great draw (one of my favourite parts of the show). Music, excellent. Something for everyone.

I had a great day at the show and thank you for making it so. The highlight was speaking to the driver of the WW1 era Holt Tractor and watching the sawyers.
Colin, (Email Address Supplied) -2016
Thanks for providing such a well organised event! We travelled 150 plus miles to visit the show for the first time, and we were very impressed. The exhibitors and their showpieces were fantastic. I’ve never seen so many mechanical wonders in one place! The car parking, litter control and even the loos were excellent… small details that make a huge difference!
David & Eileen Berresford, (Email Address Supplied) – 2016
Thank you for another wonderful show, what a great week. See you next year.
Kris Lewis, Lydford – 2016
Many many thanks for another wonderful day. Please pass on my compliments and thanks to all staff involved with every aspect of the show. Unfortunately only a one day visit this year but hopefully back next year for camping.
Ann Mcfarlane, (Email Address Supplied) – 2016
Well done to the staff of GDSF who man the car parks, clean the toilets, pick up the litter, run the shuttle service and monitor the security of this great event. We had a wonderful day.
Christine Bone, 2015
The WW1 section was absolutely breath taking and very emotional, even my 5 year old niece asked staff questions. Truly emotionally amazing. The whole show was fantastic! We honestly cannot thank you all enough.
Kris Lewis, 2015
Yet again another fantastic visit. My wife, 4 kids, dog and myself had a brilliant time. The WW1 display was fantastic and very humbling. Please, please, please thank all your staff on and off site for a wonderful few days. We will be back again next year without fail. Thank you again from one very happy family.
Claire Berrett, 2015
Just wanted to say that the show was amazing as always but I particularly wanted to say the WW1 trenches were fantastic.
I had the most fantastic time at the fair with all its attractions and facilities provided – especially with the really informative staff on hand that answered all of my questions…a job well done by you all and I am already making plans for my visit next year!
Jane Thomas, 2015
This was my first visit to the Dorset Steam Fair and I thought it was BRILLIANT. So difficult to say which were my best bits. I loved the steam engines and was sooo chuffed (pardon the pun!) that I was allowed to climb aboard so many of them. I am SUCH a steam engine geek. I loved the cider and the fun fair (mostly looking at the rides as I haven’t got the stomach for the rides any more.) Loved the big wheel though and the views from the top. Thought The Wurzels were fab…The whole atmosphere was amazing.
Paul Davies, 2015
Heavy haulage, the ‘real’ real ale tent and showman’s line up at night. Best place in the world for all three.
Dean Sullivan, 2015
The smell of the engines, the verbeeck 115 key organ, and the whole atmosphere of it all.
John Foster, 2015
The road making is the biggest nostalgic kick for me but it is all great. We booked our accommodation for next year before we left Dorset.
Ronni Westby, 2015
Everything was as wonderful as it is year on year. Watching that beautiful sunset on Friday evening while soaking up the noise of the fair.
Jo Hawken, 2014
Food tent, craft tent, beer tents, music, shire horses, engines, cars, bikes, fun fair, rural tents, meeting people, a good old sing song with Dr. Busker, the organs, old tractors…looking forward to next year come rain or shine.
Carole Whittock, 2014
Just being there, highlight of my year. We come from France now so even more special than when we lived 10 minutes away.
Paul White, 2014
We have been going for years and we still love it. Roll on next year as it’s the highlight of the year.
Will Brown, 2014
As we expected you and your team put on another fantastic show and it was brilliant to once again be part of it! Not only does the show seem to grow in size every year but the quality of the event and all the exhibits gets better and better.
Richard Klein, BBC Four, London, 2014
Once again it was a fabulous, showcase for steam, traction, collections, farm and country traditions and much much more, as well as a great fun fair and possibly the biggest set of stalls and stands ever got together in one field. So, again, thanks for the chance to get a really good insight into some aspects of that world and others at your marvellous fair.
Jack Shean, Haswell – 2013
I would just like to thank you and all your staff for putting on the best show ever. It gets better every year with more things to see and more steam engines.
Nora James, Swanage – 2013
We have just spent the most amazing 2 days at the GDSF and it was absolutely brilliant thank you to one and all, it was so clean, showers were great, food/beer and wine was the tops, see you next year.

Paul Cave (no address given) – 2011
My first visit and I just have to say Thank You for putting on the most stunning show. There were so many great sights, but for me the 4 traction engines pulling ‘Canadian Pacific’ on a low-loader up the hills was mind boggling – one of those rare sights that at the time you just can’t believe is happening. We are looking forward to next year and wish you good luck with organising the show. All the best.
Ulrich Janz, Germany – 2011
Hello Steamers, I have just returned from my trip to the UK which allowed me to visit the Steam Fair for the first time (but hopefully not the last). I really enjoyed the Saturday. Great Job, Thanks.

Just a word of thanks. We, as engine owners made the long journey South, engines galore, BUT, the other attractions on offer took our breath away!! We hope to attend in the future with our Fowler Showman’s engine but in the meantime, brilliant Show, brilliantly executed and fantastic value for money!! Well done.
John Pickup, Roche, Cornwall – 2009
My wife and I have just returned from this years Steam Fair. We would like to express our thanks to the organisers and ‘workers’ who made this event possible. The organisation for such a huge event was amazing. We have never been before, and found it absolutely outstanding in all aspects! Colleagues are getting fed up with me singing your praises! We’ll be back next year. Thank you.
Richard and Dot Moss – 2009
We hadn’t been to the Great Dorset Steam Fair for 13 years and we were absolutely amazed at how you have progressed the show to a wonderful spectacle and extravaganza. We had not previously seen the steam fair in its full glory at night, brilliant. It is a credit to you. Best Wishes.
