Getting There Is Half The Fun! Steam Spirit Is On Her Way From Canada To The Great Dorset Steam Fair

15th July 2018 – Preparing and packaging Steam Spirit for her first sea voyage to the Great Dorset Steam Fair proved to be more of an emotional challenge than a practical one. The smokestack, governor, canopy and supports had to be removed for height clearance into the container. The rear deck and main hubs were adjusted to fit the 92 ¼” width of the entry door.

They’re On Their Way! New Zealand Engines Bound For Great Dorset Steam Fair

20th June 2018 – Several rare steam engines are bobbing across the ocean from New Zealand to take part in the Great Dorset Steam Fair’s 50th anniversary celebrations and world record attempt this August bank holiday. Stoneyhurst Timber Yard of the Hawkins family became the loading venue for the New Zealand contingent bound for Dorset 2018.

Guy Martin’s Tank To Feature In Great Dorset Steam Fair WW1 Centenary Display

11th June 2018 – Guy Martin’s 28-ton Mark IV WW1 Tank has been confirmed to feature in the World War One section at the Great Dorset Steam Fair’s 50th anniversary event over the August bank holiday. Deborah II will be accompanied by a full crew from Norfolk Tank Museum so visitors will be able to get up close and personal, ask questions, and learn more about her construction and history.

Great Dorset Steam Fair 50th Anniversary Event To Host The Biggest Gathering Of Steam Engines On Earth

8th May 2018 – The Great Dorset Steam Fair has confirmed the star attraction at this year’s milestone 50th anniversary event will be the biggest gathering of steam engines ever on the planet. The special ‘500 at 50’ special will be an official Guinness World Record attempt. 500 steam engines from across the globe will be getting steam up and making their way to Dorset to be part of the assembly, including some from New Zealand, Canada, The Netherlands, Ireland, and hundreds from across the United Kingdom.

Ypres Bells To Attend World War One Commemorative Display At The 2017 Great Dorset Steam Fair

1st August 2017 – A new ring of 8 bells which have been cast at the world famous bell foundry of John Taylor & Co in Loughborough for St George’s Memorial Church in Ypres, Belgium will be attending this year’s World War One Commemorative display at the Great Dorset Steam Fair (from 24th to 28th August inclusive) after which the bells will be delivered to and hung in the church tower in Ypres.

Steam Fair FM Is Getting Ready To Celebrate Its 15th Broadcast

1st August 2017 – 2017 marks a 15 year milestone for the Great Dorset Steam Fair’s own radio station, Steam Fair FM. Recalling the first broadcast in 2003, Licence holder and General Manager Patrick Heeley says “Chris Evans and I, with the support of publisher Paul Appleton, made an approach to the GDSF board. They didn’t know quite what to make of the idea of a radio station attached to the show, but both Michael and Martin Oliver were keen to give it a go.”

Auction returns to Great Dorset Steam Fair

18th July 2017 – The ‘Stourpaine Sale’ is returning to the showground of the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Martin Oliver is pleased to announce the return of an auction to the show. Simon Whaley of Southern Counties Auctioneers met with Martin and after successful negotiations, with special thanks to Robert Coles, the sale will take place on the opening day of the show, Thursday 24th August.

The Wurzels “Steam Roll into Town with New Single and make traction with Westons Cider

30th June 2017 – The new single by The Wurzels is the story of the infamous 1921 Aveling and Porter steam roller “Old Rosie” which was named after the Laurie Lee book “Cider with Rosie” and has been a permanent fixture at the Fair since it’s humble beginnings in 1969.

Monday 29th August 2016 – Trophies were awarded to exhibitors on the final day of the Great Dorset Steam Fair 2016 in presentation ceremonies throughout the day. Managing Director Martin Oliver congratulated winners in Steam Heavy Haulage, Diesel Heavy Haulage and Steam Rollers.

Best Exhibit At The Great Dorset Steam Fair Receives Michael Oliver Memorial Cup

Sunday 28th August 2016 – The Michael Oliver Memorial Cup for Best Exhibit at the Great Dorset Steam Fair has been presented to Nigel Myers and “Organ Square.” The exhibit is made up of organs from all over the UK and even as far as Holland. Nigel Myers has been bringing the 89-Key De Grote Gavioli Organ since restoration work was completed in 1999.
